Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage is a moving, beautifully human story about love, loneliness, and the quiet hopes we carry with us. Set in 1905 New York, the play follows Esther, a talented seamstress who makes corsets and lingerie for women from every walk of life. Though she stitches garments meant to be worn close to the body, Esther keeps her own heart carefully guarded, dreaming of connection, independence, and a future that feels just out of reach.

As Esther navigates friendship, romance, and the pressures placed on her as a Black woman at the turn of the century, Intimate Apparel reveals how deeply personal choices are shaped by society, class, and race.
